Expand your confidence and your consciousness!

Play with melody, rhythm, language, harmony, vocal production, and soul connection. Get the gritty, technical, sensual sense of how the voice can draw powerfully on vocal wisdom from many cultures.

Explore the rainbow of colors inherent in our voices and join with other daring singers to create vocal landscapes, soulful harmonies, and impromptu sonic masterpieces. Elise uses games and exercises from her studies with master teachers Rhiannon Bobbie McFerrin David Darling Dr. Fred Onovwerosuoke and Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, which then expand with our own creativity.

Vocal Improvisation provides a safe and supportive space to stretch out and widen vocal horizons, and to express our authentic selves. Music reading is not a prerequisite, but some knowledge of music theory can’t hurt.

RHIANNON : ALL THE WAY IN

In 2008 Elise joined 15 singers from around the globe for All the Way In, a year-long program to study vocal improvisation, sound healing, and performance with vocalist extraordinaire and master teacher Rhiannon.

In 2012 Elise served as a “co-pilot” (assistant teacher/mentoree) for the 2012 All the Way In, which included singers from Switzerland, Australia, Hawai’i, Canada, Germany, and the continental U.S.

Elise continues to infuse the art of improvisation in her workshops, concerts, and in all aspects of her life!

Amanda McGee (ERYT 200*) is an artist and teacher who is fascinated with the connections between our inside and outside worlds. Her artwork mixes traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques in a sense of play and exploration, and she brings that same sentiment into the yoga studio. Amanda’s classes are full of challenging vinyasa (flowing postures with breath) that incorporate creative transitions and a strong focus on svadhyaya (self study). She received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification from Nirvana School of Classical Yoga in 2008, her BFA from Atlanta College of Art in 2001, and is currently working towards 500 hour yoga training certification at Asheville Yoga Center.

As a former gymnast, I was drawn to the strength and balance elements of yoga. I have always seen yoga as a good physical health practice and over time have become increasingly aware of yoga’s mental and spiritual benefits. In 2012, I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification in the Pranakriya style, taught by Yoganand Michael Carroll and William Hufschmidt. The training opened my eyes to yoga’s ability to cultivate life-changing practices such as non-judgmental self awareness. I am excited to share my love of yoga with others and seek to create an accessible workout class where people can explore their own strength while feeling comfortable modifying postures.

Over time, I became fascinated by the positive physical, emotional and spiritual changes I experienced from doing yoga consistently. I am now a certified yoga teacher in the Pranakriya style, taught by Yoganand Michael Carroll.

As we continue to practice, yoga’s usefulness as a vehicle of self-awareness and freedom becomes more obvious, as does our understanding of how and why we get in our own way and what options are available to help make our journey more enjoyable. The body is not just a container for the brain; whether one does a quiet or a vigorous practice, yoga is a way of using one’s body to work with energy. We can use this energy to become stronger and more flexible physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.

Yoga asks- ‘What don’t you know about yourself?’ And what most of us don’t know is that there is something fundamentally good and whole about each and every one of us.” ~ Donna Farhi Namaste!

In February of 2007 I found a spiritual practice that continues to serve me today. I had just quit smoking and was seeking something to help me deal with the stress of nicotine withdrawal. A friend invited me to a gentle yoga class. During that class I discovered my body could move in ways I didn’t know it could. I found an inner strength I didn’t know was there. I felt energized and relaxed at the same time- something I had never experienced before in my life. I was pleased to have found an ‘exercise’ that felt good to my body.

I continued to practice yoga and, eventually. I started taking classes with William Hufschmidt. As I began to dive deeper into myself, I found wholeness inside. I began to learn self acceptance. The inner voice of self judgement began to become a voice of nurturance and self love. I began to discover that I was perfect, just as I was.

Self acceptance has been one of the biggest lessons that yoga has taught me. Another piece of that lesson is that I, and Life itself, are constantly changing, moment to moment. And through my practice, I am learning to be okay with that change off the mat as well.

In December of 2011 I graduated the Pranakriya 200 hr training led by William Hufschmidt and Yoganand Michael Carroll. I am continuing my Pranakriya training and look forward to learning more about Yoga as well as myself, so that I may share this knowledge with everyone who comes to my classes.

My teaching style is gentle and meditative, encouraging self acceptance and self exploration with an emphasis on building body awareness. I also enjoy helping people find their way into poses using various props, such as blocks, straps, and bolsters, to allow for a deeper opening and relaxation.

I look forward to meeting you on the mat!

I began meditating on the beach in my teens and then found yoga in 1985. Since then, I have continued my path and began teaching in 1993. My studies include many different styles of yoga, including classical hatha, Kundalini, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kripalu, Restorative, and yoga for children. I have several certifications, including Classical Yoga 200-Hour Level 1 through Kashi Atlanta.

My background in theater and dance is evident in my style of teaching. From beginners to advanced, my classes are designed to take the practitioner on an inward journey to their own destination of relaxation, tranquility and inner strength.

I teach gently, yet will guide you through to your strongest edge. Even though there are no perfect poses, I use hands-on adjustments to take each student to their deepest place within the asana.

A typical class includes tuning in, quieting the mind, chanting, pranayama, warm up, neck and shoulders, asana/posture/movement from standing poses to floor work, and always ending in meditation/savasana. A complete yogic experience.

Find your center, relax and connect with your baby. This class focuses on postures and breathing techniques for Mom. Special attention is given to the realignment of your body – especially your tense shoulders and aching back (consequences of carrying and nursing your growing baby). During the class, you have the option: either your baby can be close to you on the mat or can actually participate in the movements. As a bonus, babies are treated to a short session of gentle baby massage at the end of class.
